Methodology

Because there is a significant number of highly regarded professors within the field of systems engineering, we followed a certain methodology in order to tease out the names that have appeared on the list above. To be sure, all of the professors who were presented on this list met all four of the following criteria:

  • Employment as professor/associate professor – While there are likely numerous lecturers and teaching assistants who are skilled educators, all of the individuals on this list have obtained employment as professors or associate professors.
  • Current employment  – Furthermore, each one of the aforementioned professors currently works at the associated institution, and has for a period of time.
  • Position at a four-year university  – In addition to obtaining the title of professor, all of these educators are currently employed at a university that awards both undergraduate and graduate degrees.
  • Publication and outside service  – Finally the professors on this list have authored or co-authored any number of publications in reviewed journals, and spend some of their time engaged in outside engineering-related endeavors that are separate from their institution.
